WHAT IS IT?

The Permanent Residence Permit is a document given to immigrants who desire to live in Portugal permanently. It is given to those who have had legal residence for 5 years.

There are two types of residence permits:

Permanent Residence Permit (Article 8): This permit allows you to stay in Portugal indefinitely. This will be the permit of focus in this article.

Temporary Residence Permit (Article 77º): This is a card that allows you to stay in Portugal for a period of two years beginning the day that the permit is issued. It is renewable for successive periods of 3 years. After you’ve had this permit for five years, you can apply for the Permanent Residence Permit.

    WHO CAN APPLY?

If you have been living for five years uninterrupted in any city in Portugal, you can obtain permanent residency in Portugal. With this documentation you can access most public services for the validity period of 5 years, and you only need to apply for renewal once every 5 instead once every 2-3 years.

Additionally, you must meet the following requisites:

How often does my Permanent Residence Permit have to be renewed?

It must be renewed every five years or anytime there is an alteration in any element of the personal identification of the individual.

Is there a permanent visa in Portugal?
