Even if you have never worked in Portugal, you can still register with the IEFP (Instituto do Emprego e Formação Profissional) and access job search and training services — as long as you meet the required conditions to be considered a job seeker.
STEP BY STEP GUIDE
Step 1: Make Sure You Have the Right Legal Documents
To register as a job seeker with IEFP, you must have one of the following:
For non-EU nationals: A valid Portuguese residence permit.
For EU/EEA/Swiss citizens: A Certificate of Registration as an EU resident in Portugal, along with a valid ID (citizen card, national ID card, or passport).
You must authenticate your identity to register online using either of the following:
Your Segurança Social Direta credentials
Your Digital Mobile Key (Chave Móvel Digital)
Once authenticated, click here
When filling out your registration, you’ll need to provide:
Personal information
Educational qualifications
Skills and competencies
Past job experience (if any, but if you have no prior experience, you can still register by indicating your interests and areas where you have acquired informal skills)
After registering, you will have access to:
Job offers available on the IEFP portal
Help creating your CV
Support with job interview preparation
Identification of suitable job opportunities
Training programs to improve or acquire new professional skills, tailored to your needs and goals
If you have any doubts or would prefer to speak to someone directly, you can schedule an in-person meeting at your nearest Employment Center (Centro de Emprego) via the online appointment system.
